The Beautiful Paradox of “tragic!” by Polarroi and Nylo

Romantic tragedy meets dance beats and happy chords on Polarroi’s “tragic!.” Inspired by the big, emotional dance records of 2010–2015, the single balances the quiet desperation of romantic heartbreak with a light, warm, melodic production.

Built by producer Igor Narbekov under his Polarroi artist project, the track features Nylo, whose voice brought the element the song had been missing after being tried with different vocalists. That connection became central to the record, while Narbekov’s decision to resist overproduction allowed the song to remain simple, memorable, and emotionally direct.

Nylo’s contribution is perhaps the song’s densest element. She sings about a love that first appears as a refuge, as a surrender without too many questions, until the temperatures rise, dreams sink, and what once felt safe begins to feel like a struggle to survive.

“Writing music is kind of like living inside a Shakespearean tragedy, where you get to express all your quiet desperation, taken to its most absurd extreme. You’re not just crying, you’re drowning in your tears. You’re not just struggling; you’ve been cast out to sea, and the shoreline is out of reach. All the nasty desperation of life suddenly becomes art, and it’s one of the rare forms of alchemy anyone can access,” she said.

Based in Los Angeles, Narbekov’s work has accumulated more than 2.5 billion streams, taking his music to stages, video games, and film. Polarroi now represents a space of his own, where he brings his experience and sensitivity to electronic music, pop, and the melodic energy of rock.

“Tragic!” also brings Nylo back into music after a period away from the industry. She first emerged with her debut EP “Memories Speak” and signed with Epic Records in 2012, before eventually relocating to Texas and stepping out of the spotlight. She returned to Los Angeles after filmmaker and longtime friend Clement Oberto invited her back into the studio, leading to a session with Saint Homard Music that ultimately resulted in her contribution to Polarroi’s latest single.

The track went through three vocalists before reaching Nylo, but it was her combination of melancholy and warmth that ultimately gave it an identity of its own. Her performance allows the tragedy to exist within a song that softens it somewhat through light, even cheerful chords.

“tragic!” embodies the unexpected duality of how some songs can hurt and still make us want to dance, how a story can end in pieces without erasing everything positive it once held, and how sometimes beauty is found precisely within these paradoxes.
