Taylor Momsen Reclaims Christmas with "A Pretty Reckless Christmas"

Taylor Momsen is rewriting the holiday soundtrack — and she’s doing it the only way she knows how: loud, emotional, and unapologetically rock & roll.

The Pretty Reckless frontwoman has released a new holiday EP, Taylor Momsen’s Pretty Reckless Christmas, featuring a reimagined version of “Where Are You Christmas?” — the same song she first performed 25 years ago as Cindy Lou Who in How the Grinch Stole Christmas. The track marks the first time Momsen has revisited it since the film’s release, this time transforming it from a childhood classic into a cinematic, full-bodied rock ballad.

Out now via Fearless Records, the six-track collection pairs that rework with four original songs and a closer that leans more reflective than festive. Tracks like “I Wanna Be Your Christmas Tree” and “Christmas Is Killing Me” trade sleigh bells for distortion, showing that even in the glow of the season, The Pretty Reckless are still anchored in grit and emotion.

“It started as one song,” Momsen explained. “But when we got in the studio, it took on a life of its own. There was so much emotion, nostalgia, and chaos wrapped up in it that it didn’t feel right to leave it standing alone.”

That balance between beauty and chaos has long defined Momsen’s career. Since debuting with 2010’s Light Me Up, The Pretty Reckless have evolved from post-grunge newcomers into one of rock’s most consistent modern acts — becoming the first female-fronted band to earn seven No. 1 hits on Billboard’s Mainstream Rock chart. Their 2021 album, Death by Rock and Roll, cemented their legacy, pairing heavy, emotional songwriting with arena-sized production.

Now, with Pretty Reckless Christmas, Momsen steps into an unexpected lane — not abandoning her edge but reframing it. The result feels less like a holiday detour and more like a reflective chapter in her ongoing story of reinvention.

The release comes just ahead of Momsen’s scheduled appearance at the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony on November 8th, marking another milestone in a year that’s seen her expand beyond the traditional alt-rock lane into broader cultural territory.

“Pretty Reckless Christmas” is available now on all streaming platforms, with physical copies arriving November 14th.
