CUZZOS Flex With Nothing to Fake on “CAN'T PRETEND”
On their new single, “CAN’T PRETEND,” the South Central Los Angeles rap group CUZZOS talks about money, clothes, parties, and recognition, but behind these images is the clear idea that they live exactly as they present themselves.
The group brings together Big I-N-D-O, JassCole, Milly Mo, TeaaWhy, and BB, who have developed a sound rooted in West Coast rap over the past few years.
With “CAN’T PRETEND,” CUZZOS reflects on how far the group has come while calling out those who pretend to live a life they simply do not have.
“In a culture where people often feel the need to fake success, this record stands on the opposite,” the group explains. “We don’t pretend to have what we don’t. If you see us celebrating or flossing, it’s because it’s real.”
The song features shimmering synths and a heavy bassline that keeps the group connected to the West Coast sound. The production leaves enough room for each voice to be heard and allows every member to preserve her own style. The rhythm is relaxed, but the lyrics are direct and, at times, confrontational.
TeaaWhy opens the track by talking about spending money, partying, and coming up from the ground up. Milly Mo continues with references to clothing, nightlife, relationships, and sexual independence. INDO responds to those who try to compete with her or approach her out of self-interest. Their verses include wordplay, humor, and several cultural references, but they all carry the same confidence. The chorus sums up the message with the line “I look how I live.”
In 2023, CUZZOS released the mixtape “TAKE 25,” which included “YOUNG WINGS,” “POP OUT,” and “GOOCHIE MAYNE.” The latter has surpassed four million streams, while its video has accumulated more than 3.5 million views.
“SAFE” followed in 2024, with “FAMILY REUNION” arriving in 2025. During that time, CUZZOS also worked with Los Angeles artists such as AZ Chike, Buddy, Kalan.FrFr, and Mark Lux. The group also performed at The Pop Out: Ken & Friends, Kendrick Lamar’s concert at the Kia Forum, and appeared in the video for “Squabble Up.”
Although each member has a different way of rapping, all five share the same attitude. They do not try to sound alike, but their voices complement one another because they speak from shared codes and experiences. That collective dynamic remains one of the clearest elements of their identity.
“CAN’T PRETEND” builds on an idea that has been part of CUZZOS’ music from the start. The group’s confidence comes from what it has accomplished and the place it has earned in Los Angeles’ new rap scene. The flexing is not just for show. CUZZOS has put in the work, and the song makes it clear they know exactly what that is worth.
