Trent The HOOLiGAN thrills with "OHYEA!"

One commenter under this music video accurately reads“I feel like this guy is on the verge of blowing up with every song”, and I couldn’t agree more. Trent The HOOLiGAN’s sound feels ready-made for primetime play, and every song sounds like it could be “the one” that goes viral and reaches the broader audience that he certainly deserves.

Barely in his early 20’s, Trent has already cultivated an impressive amount of refined skill. The flow between his songs is diverse and his love for Andre 3000 is easily identified in that tactical deployment of versatility and vocal delivery. Trent doesn’t lock himself within a single style, morphing his flow at will depending on the tone and intention of the song or even a particular set of bars, this allows him to be serious and edgy one moment and switch to being comedic and lighthearted the next. His songs can also bounce between moments of introspective vulnerability or outright railing against systemic inequities, which offer a broad spectrum of moments and experiences to appreciate or latch on to. If you’re looking for something specific, he probably has it in his songbook.

Trent was born in Atlanta, and grew up in many different places in the American South before finally settling down in North Carolina at age 15. The son of a Pastor, Trent’s religious upbringing imbued him with an affinity for Worship music, and it was the elements of Gospel that he identified within the sound of Outkast that really made him fall in love with the music that his adoptive black older brother had introduced him to.

Trent’s song is called “OHYEA!” A song about… well about a lot of things, but ostensibly about rapping itself! He makes it plenty clear that he’s not all about money, but money is definitely coming his way, as it’ll be a direct result of his infectious charm and the many rap-virtuoso qualities I’ve already mentioned. The release comes with a cool little video showing the genuine, uncomplicated and -once again- charming attitude that makes Trent who he is.  The final few minutes of the video contain a message hyping up his fans to a new stage in his career that is about to commence, as he takes advantage of the momentum from his full-length debut album “Medusa”, released in 2019.

Trent now feeds off of the positive vibes and uncompromising loyalty of his already substantial and ever-expanding fanbase as he moves forward with what I’m sure will be a brilliant career. What’s next? can’t help but be hyped up too.
