Casper Sage releases “bits + pieces” ahead of upcoming EP
Casper Sage’s new project, “PATINA,” is described by the artist as “a war on nostalgia,” not in a hostile or cynical way, but as an act of emotional self-liberation and a key moment of personal growth. The first single, "bits + pieces," arrived in February. He wrote it during a fleeting experience, one he knew wouldn’t last, and that awareness flows through every note of the song. The lyrics gather what was left behind, a particular look across a room. A shape two people agreed meant something in the clouds. The parts of an experience that stay with you even after the experience itself stops holding together.
“bits + pieces” is covered in a retrofuturistic synth glaze that shimmers like sinuous chrome, catching the sunset just right. You might expect Kim Carnes to join in, but Casper’s distinct falsetto carries the song effortlessly, lifting the listener with its evocative intonations. His words become a neon-lit Polaroid. The verses pulse with the warmth of a memory held too close, where two people once found constellations in the ordinary.
The romantic beat drives the heartbeat under a sequined jacket, while the chorus admits that some fragments are too bright to fade. It’s the ache of wanting to freeze a perfect frame, captured in a shimmer of reverb. The song doesn’t mourn what’s lost, but rather, it illuminates the pieces that remain, letting them glow in the dark as they drift away.
The follow-up single, “i’m dying to feel alive again,” arrives on March 13. In the meantime, he’s hitting the road in support of Amie Blu, starting in Los Angeles at The Echo on March 9 and then heading to New York for Baby’s All Right on March 19. Catch him live if you’re nearby, and keep an eye out for more from his upcoming "PATINA" EP, out in April, which features “Arthur” with DERBY as its focus track.
