Leo Sawikin Charts New Territory with His New Single “Where I’m Running”

New York City singer-songwriter Leo Sawikin returns with “Where I’m Running,” the second preview of his forthcoming 2026 EP, “The Edge of Everything.” The track follows “Jumping from So High,” the EP’s first single, which introduced the sonic direction of this next chapter in his career.

Reuniting with Phil Ek (Fleet Foxes, Band of Horses, The Shins), he leans into a sound that feels larger, bolder, and slightly dangerous. With Max Yassky on drums and Leo’s brother William Sawikin on synths, the track suggests that evolution often comes from running headfirst into the unknown.

The single arrives on the heels of his 2024 album “Till You’re Somebody Else,” whose title track reached #1 on the Mediabase A/C Independent Artists Chart and #26 on Billboard’s AC Chart. Meanwhile, “The Same Mistakes” has become his most-streamed song worldwide, confirming that his thoughtful, melodic take on indie pop continues to resonate globally. He spent much of that year on tour, opening for Jon McLaughlin and channeling the highs and lows of life on the road into a live EP that connects earlier favorites with his latest experiments.

“Where I’m Running” distills that restless, kinetic energy. From the opening moments, it’s instantly engaging with jangling, yearning guitars, a driving rhythm, and vocals that lift just enough to pull you into the chase. The production is tight without feeling rigid; each instrument is in dialogue, and every detail contributes to the momentum.

Sonically, the track lands somewhere between Muse and Coldplay with a touch of Maroon 5-style introspection; familiar influences filtered through Leo’s own identity. There’s a certain wit in its urgency, charm in its restless edge, and a sense that Sawikin is enjoying himself even as he leans into a bigger, more expansive sound.

“The song is about wanting to escape an easy life for something more exciting and dangerous,” Leo says. “The song started from a riff idea I had and came together really quickly compared to a lot of other things I’ve written.”

With “Where I’m Running,” Sawikin invites listeners into the sprint. The track nods to introspection yet pushes toward adventure, serving as a compelling introduction to “The Edge of Everything,” an EP that turns reflection into movement and might even inspire you to get up and run.
