Kiara Skyler Embraces Breakups With Pop-Rock Wit on “When You're Famous”
As pop as it gets, “When You're Famous,” the new single from singer-songwriter Kiara Skyler, has just arrived on digital platforms. An artist committed to exploring love and heartbreak through her songs, Skyler delivers it all with a candy-colored tone that hides a touch of satire and rebellion.
Directed by Kiara’s friend and director Aiden Delfin, the track comes with a deliberately simple music video designed to feel more like a natural collection of experiences than a polished, picture-perfect work, where vocals and songs usually fade into the background.
“(...) we both wanted to capture the pettiness and spite that follows a breakup. The track is less about the heartache and focuses more on moving forward and getting over that initial bitterness that comes with parting ways. How I envision this is by surrounding yourself with friends and family, so I had a few of my friends feature in the video while we explored the fair. I wanted it to feel authentic to how I would take back my power from a relationship, yet still continue that spunky, pop-rock energy of the song,” the singer shared.
The goal was achieved. Its DIY tone creates a sense of closeness that makes it easy to imagine yourself hanging out with this group of friends, enjoying a laid-back afternoon of reconnection, where the main purpose is simply to connect through simplicity.
At just 20 years old, Kiara Skyler is making her way through the independent scene with a style that blends the lyrical honesty of Holly Humberstone and Lizzy McAlpine with a fresh, youthful pop-rock sound.
The young artist has already released tracks such as “Different People,” “Deep End,” and “Everything I’ve Ever Wanted,” along with an official video for “Collision,” also directed by Aiden Delfin. Each project reinforces the authenticity of a musician who, as she says, aims to become the first Asian rock star in her family, while using music as a way to tell the story of her own journey of self-discovery.
In “When You're Famous,” Kiara Skyler turns heartbreak into creative fuel, laughing at the very thing that once hurt. Her music embodies that perfect blend of tenderness and rebellion you experience in your twenties, when letting go and starting over still feels like uncharted territory. Through song, Kiara Skyler delivers pop at its brightest, but with a sincerity that makes her story shine within a catalog as vast as her talent.
