THE ARTIST

Andrew Neil Maternick was born in Colorado Springs but his family later moved to the East Coast. On April 29, 2009, he had a car accident and suffered a serious head injury and brain tissue damage. He began having psychotic episodes and spent extended periods of his life in psychiatric institutions. 

Andrew was diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) in the Fall of 2009. In 2010, he developed an interest in music and began composing and playing songs. 

Despite his troubles, Andrew Neil is a success story. His Code Purple album is the only full album ever written and recorded in a State Psychiatric Hospital and that fact got him on Ranker's List of Best Outsider Music artists. He is an example of how people can go through really difficult periods in life and turn them into something positive.
