Haley Jack Field Reimagines “Let Her Go” With a Sapphic Perspective

Passenger’s “Let Her Go” is brilliant, and it might seem like no twist could make it positively different, until you hear it in the voice of Haley Jack Field. In collaboration with artist TomboyJ, with whom she shares a sapphic vision of art, Haley pays tribute to the track.

“Reimagining this song from a uniquely lesbian perspective and getting to do it with TomboyJ was so much fun. I loved this song when Passenger first put it out, and getting to see myself in it now and provide that representation for others is really meaningful to me,” the artist shared.

Although she is now 100% committed to the LGBTQIA+ community, specifically to the subgroups that include women, Haley’s musical beginnings were completely different.

The singer-songwriter took her first steps performing at Six Flags and Radio Disney shows, as well as at festivals in the Dallas–Fort Worth area. However, her constant personal search for her sexuality led her to step away from both music and the faith she was raised with.

After discovering her queer identity, her art began to flow, and she released her most recent album, “A Letting Go,” an intimate work that explores the process of releasing someone who has hurt you, embracing the contradictory feelings that have lingered for many years.

Today, the singer is recognized in the world of independent music and sapphic art, a sphere she fully embraced after rediscovering and owning her sexuality.

With a clear and specific artistic vision, her new single “Let Her Go” is the first of five sapphic covers, originally performed by men, that she plans to reinvent with the conviction of shining a light on a collective of women often relegated.

Having been deeply inspired as a listener by artists like Sara Bareilles, Reneé Rapp, and Holly Humberstone, and after years of searching for her place under the spotlight, this reinterpretation of “Let Her Go” is proof that if there’s no space in art for Haley Jack Field, she will not hesitate for a second to build it from scratch.
