Ella Collier Isn't some "GIRL NEXT DOOR!"
Born and raised in Atlanta, Ella Collier came to Los Angeles to materialize her skills as a singer, performer, and songwriter like many before her. What separates Ella from many of her contemporaries isn't just her electro-heavy soundscapes but the fact that her puckish attitude belies the powerhouse vocals befit to sell-out arenas. Ella is an open book in many ways, with her debut EP "Mood Swings" testifying to some of the hectic methylations of her inner dialog expressed outward in an effervescent rush of emotion and impetus.
“Vexation kills the fool”, and the fool is indeed the narrator of this song, after she finds out her not-so lover was making love to not only somebody else, but the girl who lives next door.A double betrayal, hitting too close to home..."
Ah.. betrayal and revenge. A drama for the ages and an unending source of sad inspiration for so many songwriters you're best counting those who've never written the like. This "genre" of songs -if you will- stays evergreen for a reason (again, sad!) and it seems it'll never really leave humanity.
Hello, World!
“you can’t be knocking at my door/when you’re knocking up the Girl Next Door!”.
Enter Ella Collier and her 'Desperate Housewives' mimic turned topsy turvy in favor of making an entertaining music video filled with themes of female empowerment, championing the righteous indignation that Ella feels at this betrayal.
In "GIRL NEXT DOOR" we follow a similar story to that which Ella lived, in which a housewife (Ella) discovers that not only is her husband cheating on her, but she's doing so right next door! I mean, the gall to do that!
The bridge is the peak of the confrontation, with Ella addressing not only her false lover, but the actual “girl next door!” in a not-so subtle attack, she addresses the elephant in the room. Ella hopes through this song to empower a womanly outrage, instead of shame it or gloss over the blood of backstabbing. “It’s okay to be angry.”, she says... “I had to tell myself this over & over when the initial shock faded away...”.
Cassie Howell Directed the upcoming music video, and she had this to say:
“The music video for GIRL NEXT DOOR! transforms narrative archetypes that traditionally oppress women into empowering characters. The housewife, the femme fatale, and the other woman all feature in the film-noir-inspired story of salacious betrayal. We watch Ella investigate her lover’s mysterious absences, only to realize that the truth may be worse than ignorance.”
If you wanna catch Ella in her full glory as a performer, you can swing by the Hotel Cafe in L.A. this Saturday at 9:30pm for the "GIRL NEXT DOOR!" release show
