Eddy Lee Ryder releases ‘Cold river’

New York City daredevil songwriter, Eddy Lee Ryder, has released her new single “Cold River”, a somewhat sad and lonely song that came to her as she walked along a frozen river in Upstate New York:

“On my walk, I passed a house in which everyone sat in separate rooms, isolated and on their phones, in what felt like a similarly beautiful yet cold scene. In that moment, I couldn’t help but feel this overwhelming urge to outrun that same feeling of isolation and disinterest, but the cold always finds a way to catch-up with me. Even in the warmth of another person, I often find love to become icy cold. Some days I think it may be better to welcome the inevitable and find peace in it's darkness, but in the end, the cold, much like the river, will seemingly do whatever it chooses”,

“Cold River” is a solid and nostalgic piece where Ryder gets to show off the power of her voice while still exercising some restraint so as not to let the vocals overpower the musical ambience. When asked about the single, she said: “Some days I think it may be better to welcome the inevitable and find peace in its darkness, but in the end, the cold, much like the river, will seemingly do whatever it chooses”.

Being a classically trained musician and opera singer, Eddy discoverred her love of songwriting when she first heard Peter Gabriel’s “Solsberry Hill” and never looked back. She soon found herself hooked on Bruce Springsteen; Stevie Nicks; Kate Bush and many more, refining her ears on the kind of classic rock storytelling that you can pick up in her sound today.

Ryder has this interesting profile that takes her from murder ballads to love songs and upbeat party tunes. Her unconventional, theatrical approach to songwriting mingles contagious ‘70s good-time rock riffs and pop beats with complex poetry, layers that sparkle through her well-crafted recordings.

In the middle of the 2020 chaos, Lee Ryder released her five song EP “Expected to fly”, the collection of singles connected in an exceptional way with an audience that faced the uncertainty of that moment with fear, finding the kernel of hope and optimism that's always at the heart of Ryder's music.
