With “Giving It Time,” Casey Lipka strips her music down to its essentials. The five-song EP favors warm acoustic instrumentation, subtle arrangements, and an unforced sense of intimacy, allowing her voice and songwriting to take center stage. Lipka builds a listening experience rooted in simplicity, sincerity, and quiet emotional resonance.

After performing on major stages and touring internationally with the rock band CAKE, Casey now draws listeners in with warm acoustic instrumentation free from overwhelming effects or unnecessary embellishments.

Instead, the album unfolds a calm and delicate atmosphere. Casey places her voice and lyrics at the center of each arrangement, creating a performance that feels personal enough to resemble a private concert in your own living room.

The journey begins with “The Long Road,” a gently embracing song in which the acoustic guitar floats within an aura of peace while Casey’s voice shines. Her signature whisper-like tone comes through again in the second track, “Never Want to Say.” Meanwhile, “Higher” introduces a slight shift with a faster, more playful rhythm capable of bringing out spontaneous smiles.

“Goodbye” and “Tides” close the collection by reinforcing the mystical presence of the singer-songwriter, who leans on simple instrumentation and a sweet, soothing voice that comforts, pierces through, and sustains.

Casey finds meaning in the quiet work of sustaining human connections. Throughout the EP, she reflects on the patience, honesty, and care that meaningful relationships demand, allowing these reflections to become one of the project’s emotional foundations.

“These types of connections, these types of friendships, take time. They require being nurturing, forgiving, truth-telling, speaking up when it’s hard, staying through the ups and downs, all the while being authentic with yourself and those that you love,” Casey shares.

The sentiment also reflects the broader vision behind her artistic career, one that places community, collaboration, and authentic connection at its center. Her work ranges from composing music for ballet productions and museum installations to directing tributes to Motown and leading community-based projects.

These efforts have earned innovation grants that helped fund musical series centered on women artists, as well as gatherings in Los Angeles supporting women and nonbinary double bassists. Through these initiatives, she approaches music as a way to build community and encourage meaningful dialogue.

Casey Lipka’s “Giving It Time” delivers a collection that feels both accessible and emotionally resonant, rewarding close listening through its warmth, honesty, and understated storytelling.
