Cameron Inman: A bewitching Rising Actress

Hailing from Ruidoso, New Mexico, Cameron Inman always had a love affair with various sports, but one fateful day would find her cast as the lead in a fifth-grade musical play titled ‘Holli Day’, where a new love would be born: Acting.

From age 16 onward, Cameron was on that tough grind driving up to L.A. from her Dallas home as often as possible, jumping from audition to audition to try to make it into the biz. For a time, Cameron stopped forcing it, taking a break from the grueling process to focus on her personal growth by traveling across Europe and later becoming a dental technician to support herself and her acting dreams financially.

Cameron Inman will soon be seen in AMC’s “Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches” as the younger version of Annabeth Gish’s character ‘Deidre” premiering January 8. The series tells the story of a young neurosurgeon, ‘Rowan,’ who discovers that she is the unlikely heir to a family of witches and must contend with a sinister presence that has haunted her family for generations. Inman navigated filming her first sex scene while playing ‘Young Deidre’ alongside actor Sam Evans in the series. Fans may recognize her from her recent roles including ‘Lena’ in the horror film “Room 223” and ‘Inga’ in BET’s series “Sacrifice.”

To those who haven't seen the show yet, can you give them a quick rundown of what AMC's 'Anne Rice’s Mayfair Witches' is about, what can we expect of the show

Mayfair Witches is about a neurosurgeon, Dr. Rowan Fielding (Alexandra Daddario), who learns that she is the descendant and heiress to a family of witches who are haunted by a dark spirit named Lasher (Jack Huston). The first season of Mayfair Witches is based on Anne Rice’s novel The Witching Hour. Lives of the Mayfair Witches is a trilogy, and The Witching hour is the first book. The book was written by an amazing woman and the show is written by amazing women. This show is filled with powerful women at every turn, and it mixes that in with horror elements. It also brings the city of New Orleans to life in the best way.

What has your experience on-set been like? What do you enjoy most when working on the show?

My experience on set was incredible. I had been on professional sets before but not as a key character. I was on set (off and on) for a couple of months, and I had the time of my life. I made amazing friendships and worked with top-tier talent. The thing I enjoyed most was bringing my character to life. I truly love what I do and being able to perform in front of such established people in the industry was a dream come true.

And on that same note, what has been your biggest challenge or most curious moment so far?

The biggest challenge I had was the scene with Father Duffy and my character Deirdre. Deirdre is desperate and asks for his help. It was a very emotional and heartbreaking scene. I always bring pieces of myself into every character and this scene hit very close to home for me. I felt more naked and vulnerable in this scene than in my sex scene. It is always a challenge to bare your soul in a roomful of people but, the scene came out beautifully.

Tell us a bit about your role as young Deidre.

My character Deirdre is a key character because she is the mother of Rowan who is the 13th and most important witch in the family. Deirdre is a rebellious teenager who lives with her extremely religious/strict Aunt Carlotta (Beth Grant). Deirdre wants so desperately to escape her world and be loved, specifically by Lasher, and she really has no one else except for him.

Have you read Anne Rice before getting the role?

I actually had not read any Anne Rice novels before getting the role, but I bought and read The entire Lives of the Mayfair Witches series right after I found out I had booked the role. I adored the first book, The Witching Hour, because it gave me so much insight into all of the characters and their relationships. The second and third book in the series (Lasher and Taltos) are just as mesmerizing and I am so excited to see more of Anne Rice’s work on the screen.

Like many -if not most- people in showbiz, you spent a great deal of time just trying to get noticed and picked up for roles. Is acting proving to be everything you've hoped it would be? have there been any stark realizations you've come to that you didn't even imagine you'd have?

Acting is proving to be even more than I could have ever hoped for. I truly felt at home and that I was doing what I was meant to be doing. I remember being on set one night and I was sitting in a room with Harry Hamlin and Jack Huston and I was so overcome with emotion because I had been working so hard for this moment and I was doing the damn thing. I don’t know if I had a realization that I didn’t imagine having… but I had a realization that this is just the beginning.

What would you say to someone struggling to get their first role right now?

I would hug them and tell them to never lose sight of their dream. It can feel so overwhelming, especially if you have been trying for years as I have. Persistence is key and so is having other hobbies. Do not focus on all the negatives or all the “no’s”. A callback is a victory. Enjoy the process and always believe in yourself.

Tell us a bit about Cameron outside of acting. it seems you have a very active and varied lifestyle right now.

When I am not acting, I am working as a dental hygienist on the weekdays. On the weekends you can sometimes find me working as the Queen at Medieval Times. Medieval Times introduced me to my love of horses and riding. I recently married the love of my life, Ian, and we have two dogs together Bo and Tyrion. We love watching TV series together, playing mini golf, and when we have time we love to travel!
