The Cave Is Julian Lamadrid’s Solo Endeavor, Debuting With a Surreal and Cinematic Single/Video “Tarot”

The Cave is the brand new solo project of New York-based musician and filmmaker Julian Lamadrid. Originally from Mexico, Julian's career has been impressive at his young age. With over 30 million Spotify subscribers, he has become a household name in the music industry. In 2019, he released "Mala Noche" and in 2021, "Rebels of The Neon God", both critically acclaimed concept albums on Sony Music's Arista Records. Julian's single "15 Minutes" has been streamed over 7 million times on streaming platforms, and has been viewed over 300 thousand times on YouTube.

Currently, he is independent and releasing The Cave through his Brooklyn-based electronic record label Mala Noche Records. As the music of The Cave combines rock and electronic elements in an innovative way, it is part Daft Punk and part Pink Floyd. There is no end to the energy and passion that fuels the live show. As the music will help listeners escape the trappings of modern life, social norms, and expected behaviors, the name is a tribute to Plato's Allegory of The Cave. Julian himself produced the music, wrote all the lyrics, and directed all the videos.

Julian debuts his solo career with a single/video called Tarot. A 5-minute long surreal song. There's a strong cinematic feeling in both the sound and the visuals. We're bombarded with almost a dreamlike rhythm. It takes two minutes to hear Julian's voice and is totally worth the wait. Flowing like a river to the sea, the sound perfectly fits with his voice and lyrics. Julian's single/video is a surreal experience, transporting us to a mysterious and unknown world. The visuals and soundscapes evoke a dreamlike atmosphere, and the rhythms and melodies create a stunning and mesmerizing effect. Julian's voice is the perfect accompaniment to this musical journey, and the lyrics take us even further into this surreal soundscape.

Visually, the video showcases Julian's filmmaker talents. Filmed in black and white, it gives the illusion of bigger places. Bright lights with lens flare shine everywhere, with mirrors on both sides is like we're given a look into a parallel dimension, one co-existing with our own. The colorless world helps to heighten the sense of mystery and surrealism. By blending two worlds together, the video creates a unique and captivating experience. Julian's vision is further enhanced through the use of music, with a dreamy electronic beat and a haunting melody that adds to the atmosphere. The combination of visuals and sound creates a powerful, thought-provoking experience that lingers in the mind long after the video ends.

"Tarot, the first single from The Cave, details the journey of growth and taking responsibility for one's future. Destiny is what you make of it, fate is what you create. The song was born out of several hangouts between Julian and his friend Boots (Producer Beyonce, FKA Twigs, Run The Jewels) in which Julian detailed his frustration with modern pop music and wanted to create something both catchy and memorable and yet cinematic and artistically engaging. After an evening of messing around with a Juno 106 and a bass guitar, the groove was locked in, the song had taken form and the style and class were audible. The Cave was born."

Julian has delivered something unique with this debut single. His cinematic take on music sparked my curiosity and I'll keep an eye on his future releases. His signature sound is both captivating and mesmerizing, and he has the potential to be a breakthrough artist. I'm excited to see what he has in store for us next.
